2,114 Drunk Drivers Arrested in a day at Pennsylvania this Christmas

PENNSYLVANIA: 2,114 Drunk drivers were arrested yesterday at Pennsylvania this Christmas holiday.

With an increase of 623 drunk drivers from last year, it was responsible for the 41% increase of drunk drivers state wide. In the central area of Pennsylvania, 274 were arrested, which was 72 more than last year.

The patrol is making bigger efforts to keep drunken drivers off the highways. Susan Cown-Sott, the division's commander of public affairs, said the PHD officers demonstrated "a real, aggressive attitude" toward drunken drivers.

John Scott elected chairman for 1997-98 of the Richland County Board of Commissioners

RICHLAND COUNTY: John Scott was elected chairman for 1997-98 of the Richland County Board of Commissioners through an unanimous vote on the first ballot.

Democrat Scott had the four votes he needed to win against Republican Herb Beckwith. He voted for himself, and three other Democratic commissioners voted for him, too.

"I would like to say that I'm especially pleased that this is unanimous. I'm looking forward to a good year. I know with your support, we'll do that."    Said Scott.
