M6.6 Quake Hits the Aleutian Islands
ALASKA: A M6.6 earthquake hit the Aleutian Islands on Sunday at 7:01 p.m. PST, shaking the fishing villages of Nikolski, Dutch Harbor, and Unalaska for three minutes.
There were no reports of injuries or notable damage.
"There was some very minor damage at Nikolski, with items knocked off shelves and small items damaged," stated George Carts, a seismologist at the Alaska Tsunami Warning Center.
The epicenter located 40 miles east of the village of Nikolski and 850 miles southwest of Anchorage sent 20 aftershocks with one of M5.0, but not powerful enough to cause a tsunami, confirmed the officials.
