RECAP OF LECTURE: ADJUSTMENT LAYER & FILTERS
1. ADJUSTMENT LAYERThe Adjustment Layers in Photoshop are a group of a super useful, non-destructive image editing tools that add color and tonal adjustments to your image without permanently changing its pixels. With the adjustment layers, you can edit and discard your adjustments or restore your original image at any time.
When you add an adjustment layer to your image, a new layer will appear over your image and a Properties panel specific to the type of adjustment you’ve selected will pop up. The Properties panel will allow you to modify your adjustment layer, which in turn will modify your image.
Figure 1.2 How to use Adjustment Layers
A. BRIGHTNESS / CONTRAST
Brightness / Contrast makes adjustments to the tonal range of your image. The brightness slider is for adjusting the highlights in your image and the Contrast slider is for adjusting the shadows in your image.

B. LEVEL
Levels modify the tonal values in an image by adjusting the levels of the shadows, midtones, and highlights.

C. CURVESCurves let you adjust as many points as you want throughout the entire tonal range of your image, and is the most powerful and precise tool for editing the tones in an image.
D. EXPOSUREExposure lets you adjust exposure levels with three sliders: Exposure, Offset and Gamma. Exposure will adjust only the highlights of the image, Offset adjusts the mid tones and Gamma will adjust the dark tones only.

Figure 1.7 Selective Color Adjustment LayerThe Selective Color adjustment layer selectively modifies the amount of a primary color without modifying the other primary colors in your image.
2. FILTERS
Using filters to edit photos is an essential element of Adobe’s graphics editor. There are filters to change colour, add blur or create completely new image effects.

RECAP OF TUTORIAL: PROJECT 1 (DEMO)For tutorial, Mr Fauzi showed us videos on how to Remove Background, How To Add an Adjustment to a Single Layer, and fix skin tones in Photoshop.

PRACTICAL: DIGITAL COLLAGE
For Practical, I need to improvise my best composition from WEEK 3 digital collage exercise into week 4 using adjustment layers & filters on Photoshop and explain what I've learned.
WEEK 3 - PEN TOOL EXERCISE (BEST COMPOSITION)
DESCRIPTION:
I’ve learned how to experiment and explore different compositions as well as working with images that I am unfamiliar with. Unlike our physical collage, we did not get to choose the photos that we wanted to use. That was a challenge for me, but it was fun to explore new things, and I also loved my artwork in the end. Moreover, I learned how to crop images or remove background from images on Adobe Photoshop. I discovered that design is not a linear process, so I need to keep trying and trying to get to the right design that I think is good. Finally, I learned how to incorporate the rule of thirds and the golden ratio into my work so that it is more pleasing to the eye.
WEEK 4 (ADJUSTMENT LAYERS & FILTERS )
DESCRIPTION:
In week 4, I learned how to touch up and color grade images using adjustment layers and LUTS. I downloaded LUTS online to see which one would look good on my digital collage. I have also experimented using curves, levels, selective color, color balance, channel mixer, masks, vibrance, color lookup, brightness/contrast, and exposure to color correct my artwork. I have color corrected multiple times and made many drafts to try different styles before arriving at this final one which I think is the best among the rest that I made. Along the process, I have also learned new shortcuts for Adobe Photoshop on windows like CTRL + J, which is to duplicate the active layer into a new layer, and CTRL + D, which is to deselect.
FEEDBACK FROM LECTURERMr. Fauzi said I did a good job on my adjustment layer experiments and it looks better now. He also suggested to move the down right background to be attach with the old factory so that I will get a same flat background. Nevertheless, he said the rest looks good.
REFLECTIONThis week, we color corrected our best composition from week 3. I find this quite challenging because color correcting is not my strong point. I kept trying different styles, but it did not look good enough for me. Nevertheless, I kept trying and trying many techniques until I am satisfied with the result. Overall, this was a good challenge for me, I tried my best, and I think I had put up not a bad effort.
